Credit counselling services

A payday loan is an unsecured short-term loan to meet unexpected cash needs. Payday loans are for occasional use only and should not be used to cover continual shortfalls in your budget.

If you have ongoing problems meeting your financial needs or debt obligations, you should consider consulting with a credit counsellor. CPLA members are committed to providing credit counselling references.

Where can I find credit counselling services?

CPLA members are committed to increasing consumer awareness of the available credit counselling assistance programs and can provide you with the necessary information to direct you to credit counselling assistance.

Credit Counselling Canada is a non-profit organization whose members help Canadians to solve their debt problems, and learn to manage money and credit wisely. Clients receive professional counselling at little or no cost and all options to resolve debt problems are explored. Learn more at www.creditcounsellingcanada.ca.

Credit counselling is also available through the Ontario Association of Credit Counselling Services. The OACCS, established in 1970, represents a membership of professional not-for-profit credit counselling agencies.

The OACCS provides a central referral service that links clients with accredited member agencies of the Association. For more information, call 1-888-7-IN DEBT (1-888-746-3328) or visit the OACCS website at www.oaccs.com.

You can obtain referral to a credit counsellor through a CPLA member store.

Further information regarding credit counselling assistance programs in your area is available through all CPLA members; the personnel in CPLA member stores can provide you with the necessary information to direct you to credit counselling assistance.
